USS Enterprise (CV-6) 27.75"

USS Enterprise (CV-6) was the second of three Yorktown class aircraft carriers. The Yorktown class ships were one of the most successful warship designs in history. Although smaller in displacement than USS Lexington and USS Saratoga, Enterprise and her sisters USS Yorktown and USS Hornet could carry almost the same number of aircraft and 30 percent more aviation fuel. They were exceptionally seaworthy and more maneuverable than their predecessors. Enterprise was launched on October 3, 1936 by Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company and commissioned on May 12, 1938.

In April 1939, Enterprise was ordered to the Pacific, where she would play a vital role in the great sea war that began with Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. On December 10, 1941, her planes sank a Japanese submarine, the first of many enemy ships that would be destroyed by her air group. Later, Enterprise participated in the abortive Wake Island relief expedition. In 1942, she hit Wake and Marcus islands, and covered the Doolittle raid on Japan.

In June 1942, she took part in the Battle of Midway. Her planes sank or helped sink three Japanese aircraft carriers and a cruiser. In late 1943 and early 1944, she was involved in the Gilberts and Marshalls invasions and in attacks on Japanese bases in the Central and Southern Pacific. At the end of 1944, the carrier received a special night operations air group, with which she participated in the Luzon campaign, strikes in the South China Sea, the Iwo Jima invasion, raids on the Japanese home islands and the Okinawa campaign.

Enterprise was decommissioned in February 1947. Of the more than twenty major actions of the Pacific War, she engaged in all but two. Her planes and guns shot down 911 enemy planes, her bombers sank 71 ships and damaged or destroyed 192 more. Over the course of the war, she received 20 battle stars, three more than any other ship.

With the USS Enterprise wooden ship model, one can almost hear the roar of the ocean waves. It is an exact replica of the original, handmade with vigilance, from the very first to the last step. Master craftsmen diligently carve high quality mahogany to create the ship's form. After it is sanded and puttied, skilled artists paint on the intricate details. Hand-casted resin and handmade metal parts also constitute the model. Clear lacquer provides the finishing touch and long-lasting protection. Each ship comes on a a display base with brass pedestals and a brass name plate. All items then undergo quality control and are delivered to eagerly waiting customers in protective double-lined boxes with high density foam. More than just a display piece, the Enterprise ship model is a work of art.
