USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) 1/350

Launched on March 15, 1980, USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) is a Nimitz class supercarrier of the United States Navy. She was named after Congressman Carl Vinson of Georgia, who was present at the ship's commissioning on March 13, 1982, becoming the first person in US history to witness a launching in his honor.

On March 1, 1983, after extensive work up and sea trials, the ship with a crew of nearly 6,000 departed Norfolk, Virginia to begin an eight-month cruise around the world. Carl Vinson received her first Meritorious Unit Commendation for operations conducted from November 1984 to May 1985. In February 1985, she was named the winner of the Admiral Flatley Memorial Award for operational readiness and aviation safety for the year 1984.

Carl Vinson participate in Exercise Ke Koa and the commemoration of the end of World War II in the Pacific from August 26 to September 3, 1995. One month later, she participated in Fleet Week '95, launching World War II aircraft in the San Francisco Bay area. In 1996, the carrier participated in Exercise Rugged Nautilus and Operations Desert Strike and Southern Watch. She also received her second Battle “E”, third Meritorious Unit Commendation, and fourth Admiral Flatley Award.

On December 19, 1998, Carl Vinson launched air strikes in support of Operation Desert Fox, and continued support for Operation Southern Watch in enforcing the no-fly zone over southern Iraq. The ship and her battle group launched the first strikes in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on October 7, 2001. She remained on station for 72 days, conducting more than 4,200 combat sorties in the War on Terrorism. For most of 2005, she completed a world cruise which included several months in the Persian Gulf in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

At Maritime Modelworks, we bring ordinary wood models to life. Each museum quality USS Carl Vinson ship model is created step-by-step meticulously. No machines are involved in the process; everything is made by hand. Skilled craftsmen chip away at a piece of mahogany until a ship appears, which is then sanded and puttied. Hand-casted resin and handmade metal parts are also added. Gifted artists paint on the colors and all details, no matter how big or small. Afterwards, clear lacquer is applied for protection. Each model ship is complemented with a handsome display base with brass pedestals and a brass name plate. Products are always double-checked before being delivered to customers in sturdy wood crates via FedEx Next Day Air.
